Washingtons And Others With Imperf./Lined Edges?

Hello everyone, I hope all is well wherever you are, and the collections are looking fantastic!!

Below are some US stamps, each of them showing an imperf edge with a ruled line. I am wondering what it is I am looking at and how or even if it should be noted. Are these booklet stamps showing the edge of the sheet?

While I am here, I thought I would share this as it was handy to post. Very damaged, but a neat multiple and nice Special Delivery stamp in purple!

And I realize that KirkS is very recognizable from his avatar, but in case he ever grows tired of it, I offer this as an alternative:

yep edge of the sheet.. personally never seen them noted unless they had the outer piece with a plate number on it... love those stamps!! very nice lot you got there....

As for the remainder of the items posted ...

The 4th photo is most likely Scott #599, perf 10 vertically, coil strip of 4 with 2 singles.

The 8th photo is most likely a Scott 498, vertical strip of 3 from a booklet pane. It's a shame it's not the entire booklet pane of 6 as they're not commonly found as entire used booklets.

The remainder of the items have selvage edges from outside sheet margins.

I believe that all those with the line on the straight edge, whether from a sheet or booklet are the center guide lines. A full press sheet was 400 stamps. Center guide lines were printed on the vertical and horizontal centers of the press sheet and used as guides for cutting a 400 stamp sheet into four 100 stamp sheets.

The stamps are from full sheets of 400 or from booklet pane sheets. Both had guide lines on the sheets. The lines were used for cutting of the larger sheet into smaller ones. Usually stamps with straight edges are worth a little less.

Welcome to the forum Bruce (AKA astrorock2010)! Glad you'[re here. You will find that the membership will gladly give you help on just about anything to do with stamp collecting. What areas or countries do you collect? From your id I suspect that you collect meteors as well?

Thanks for all of the information, and taking the time to get back to me folks, I really appreciate it! My eventual plan is to re-introduce all of my American stamps back into the collecting world and I want to describe them as accurately as possible to avoid misleading the potential new caretakers.
