One of only 2 "Achievements in Technology" covers in existence that were issued 4 weeks early and Date stamped accordingly. The correct issue date was 19 August 1987, not 19 July.

The lady (Pam), in Newcastle PO, was doing holiday relief in the Philatelic section and was asked to cancel the pre-prepared FDC's for issue, she did not realise it was for the 'following' month.

So the 10 covers were cancelled wrong, and when I came in that morning, around 9.30 am to pick up my normal Standing Order she offered them for sale, because she thought they were on issue that day the 19th July.

I took the 10 BUT when I arrived home the Post Master, Trevor Rumming rang and pointed out the mistake made. He pleaded for their immediate return. That P.O. has always been good to me so I returned "8 out of 10 covers I could locate", and got a refund.

The returned 8 covers were immediately torn up in front of me, Pam and other Philatelic customers waiting to be served.
