I'm new to collecting stamps and particularly like duck stamps. I was wondering which type of stamp has more of a collectable demand, self adhesive or gummed? Or does it matter? Thanks

Both are collectible, but self adhesive is not nearly as popular for a couple of reasons ... 1) they're a pain to mount in stamp albums, and 2) because self adhesives are so modern, they are widely available.

Early duck stamps are not as common and in high demand so are going to be worth considerably more.

Personally, I lean heavily towards the gummed stamps.

Welcome to the family kauaihunta

When one collects a particular theme,
in your case be it ducks, then you may
be considered a thematic or Topical collector.

If so, down the track, you will probably want to collect
every duck stamp you come across, so gummed or self
adhesive will not matter.
You will even begin to collect labels and doubtful
countries ducks on stamps, that is the fun of the game

Enjoy your journey

here is something to whet your appetite

By the way, in future when you make a post,
try to make your topic, on topic
for example "Duck Stamps"
or use SCF's "search" option for duck gossip.

SCF is becoming a vast library of knowledge
and your posts can add to that if you employ good headings
Thanks

I'm collecting stamps by country and for some countries I collect the really modern stamps. Spain is one of them and there is a combination between self adhesives and gummed as the stamps that are self adhesives doesn't exists on other variant (as for many other countries). So I collect them both. But the problem with self adhesives is that they are not for a long time in use so nobody really knows how the paper will look like in, let's say, 10 years. Some are saying that in long time the paper on self adhesive stamps will destroy the stamp.
For this reason, I will try to avoid the self adhesives and when I have the option to choose I'm choosing always gummed.
But just remember:there is no real proof. So, as many here said, just collect what you really like and enjoy it!
