Very nice David. I especially love the top one, the embossing is beautiful. I'm wondering what the numbers 20 99 2 refer to?

You mean the date? If so, that is 20-9-95 or September 9, 1895.

No, I mean the numbers which are part of the design of the top stamp. 20 99 2.
could be February 20 1899, but I googled it and couldn't find anything specific to that date which would be commemorated. I noticed the thistles too, so wondering if it was a Scottish event?

Thanks Jeff. It is good to know I can count on you to back me up.

I would still say that what you have is a date. February 20, 1899.

I must be dense as a post. I don't see how anyone is getting February and if you use the initial 2 for February how do we get the 20th, and the last two digits sure look like 95. Can someone help me out, are we use a different calendar?? - jeff

thank you james, now I am going to go around today feeling especially stupid! I always enjoy those days once in a while, especially after a few days of feeling like I know something. Anyone want to google, "idiot" today, they will see my picture. - Jeff
