This is one of the 8-10 censored covers I received in a local collection. Several are from India another UK but what went on in ecuador to require censorship? Yes I could google it but wanted to show the cover and a few of the ecuador stamps as well. Figure I'll get a history lesson along with others.

Tried cancels both sides and can't make out much at all. Stamps place it WW2 but didn't realize much of WW2 had any basis in South America. Stamps only cat at minimum value but are some really well done issues.
Ironically the return sender is C. Williams and so am I !

The US was active all over South America during WWII. The coasts were lined with US-hired spotters. The US took the Marshall Plan seriously. There were air bases for airplane reconnaissance. The navy had the whole continent canvassed. All good reasons to censor mail. Also keep in mind that mail censoring was also an intelligence-gathering activity.

I havn't dug into the others but they are the folded letter types and hopefully completely readable. Again Ironically a few are addressed to my city and I will be searching for the family . Once I get things sorted I will try and scan well enough to be read. If there are any colectors of censored covers on the board these wil be 4 sale.

Hello Nitro

There were some serious concerns about Nazi sympathizers in parts of Latin America, and mail to, and from, these countries can be found censored either way.

The same is true for covers to and from Latin America with Canada as well during the war.
