after reading this thread https://goscf.com/t/15055 I had an idea I saw some where (i dont recall where) a really good idea to play of of this topic. wold it be possible to start our own covers from around the world? the method I saw was simple and had great potential. I would add one twist so see if this makes sense and if any of you are interested....
many of us email each other and send stamps back and forth already what if we had a point person (some one to start) who received a list of say 10 addresses and send a cover to each person on the list with a copy of the list inside. each recipient would then open the list and send covers to each person on the list. in one round we would potentially have a cover from every person on the list (around the world)... or would it make more sense to have a start list and after the first two mailings (original and the returns from those) have each person generate an additional list with recipients from the first added? I am not sure if this makes as much sense as it does in my head lol what are your thoughts?

good deal ... I will wait to see the interest level then if we can get 5 or more we can do it!! I really think it would be a great collection we could even do a custom cover if we choose to .. maybe something about where its sent from? or the person sending it?

counting me thats three at the moment I think 2 more should do for a good start.. then each person on the original list can create a 5 person list etc...

Basically it is a round robin (collector viewpoint) or a chain letter (general public viewpoint). Round robin is used by postcard collectors frequently to build their collections or just interact with other collectors. This is much like stamp collectors whom have regular trading partners.

true .. I guess the initial idea was to have the list ever expanding to encourage world wide distribution.... still think it will be fun though ;)

Since mailed postcards are covers as well as being postcards I don't see any problem using postcards, in fact, personally I would prefer it as I collect both.

I feel that a postcard adds another dimension to a cover (literally, the picture side) and if a suitable stamp is affixed to the front as well and postmarked then we have another step - a maxicard!

:)
