This Australian stamped envelope shows the same colorless impression on back.

I think this is considered an "Albino Print"
very collectible I should think.

This explains how an albino print occurs

This second envelope has no stamp impression. It was in the same batch, with the above 'no stamp color one', delivered to the P.O.

I'm mostly with you on that explanation, rod, but how does the impression appear on the back?

I assume it doesn't appear on the back with a "normal" envelope...if that's true, then it would be logical to assume that the embossing is done before folding. This one must have been embossed after folding.

I'm certain there is a flaw in my logic...help me find it.

C.

Great stamp finches. You know that could be one of those new stamps that are being printed for anyone to color the way they would like. If you want I will send some crayons and you can go at it. (super stamp finches)

I don't think so Collin,
I hadn't considered the impresssion on the back
in isolation, it looked odd but I didn't question it.

Quite a fascinating cover all round.
worth pursuing with stationery experts, I would suggest.
Especially as it is pristine condition.

BTW I agree, I presume they are embossed prior to folding.

Nope! I am sorry, I just checked my stock,
they are embossed after folding, all have the impression on the back

Give me a few moments and I'll post scans.

I just checked my price list for stationery,
and the Australian 7c Magenta on buff (CV=$1)
is not listed as an albino print.

Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I presume not common
probably rated as an EFO ?

It does exist as an PTPO (printed to private order)
and its genesis maybe from there.

I would certainly keep it (and archivally protect it)

Stationery is always ticklish,
not a well trodden path in philately
esp with catalogues and information.

But SCF does get there occaisionally.
(The Indian Princely states is well covered)
