Last week I had a group of German Reich era covers listed on ebay. Most sold at either the 99 cent opening bid or a few dollars above that. Why did this one, not all that different in appearance from the rest, get bid up to $20.50? Was it for personal reasons? |

Mod.. I have no idea, I was watching this auction, and I was amazed at the final closing bid also. Anyhow.. you deserve a two thumbs up, for a great cover I just sent a scan of your cover to a fellow collector of Germany "Rudy " aka Railmanblue. |

Thanks, Bob. Am thinking once the buyer leaves feedback and I know he has it, of asking him if he wouldn't mind telling me what made it something special to him. |

The map brings back memories I don't really have. I lived in Baumholder Germany for three years from about 4 to 7 years old. My Dad was in the occupation Army back then (1954-7) and I have distinct memories of being friends with an old German man named Pago or Pogo who was like a grandfather to me.
There-in lies the foundations of my fascination with all things German. To be honest, I think he was ex-Nazi/SS because I remember pictures he had of himself in some kind of black uniform.
I lived in Germany for three more years from 6th through 9th grade - in Bad Kreuznach, and remember much more about that time. |

Quote: Bad Kreuznach Swabbie, every now and then I see "Bad" in front of the name of a German town. What does it mean? When placed into the translator, "Bad" comes out bath! That doesn't make sense, and Germany can't have that many bad places in which to live! |

Actually you're right on target Modern. I used to ride my bike 3 or 4 miles to the "baths." There was a swimming pool, the baths, and what seemed to be hundreds of "well fed" German women. |

OK Greg, baths it is. Going by the dates you gave your Dad, he just missed being in the occupation Army with Elvis! |
