No problems Nitrolures - the early definitives of the Union are difficult, I struggle often
For this particular stamp there were three main printings :
Unhyphenated:
- London Pictorials
- Roto Printing Pretoria
Hyphenated:
- Hyphenated Pictorials
- Hyphenated and Screened Pictorials
The first step in deciphering these sets are to look for the hyphens between the words Suid and Afrika.
Yours has the hyphen so it can only be one of two printings. The 2s6d was left out in the hyphenated pictorials so it must be from the hyphenated and screened pictorials.
Now we need to get into the options for this set :
Colour:
- Green and Brown (SACC 120, SG 121)
- Green and Cinnamon Brown (SACC 120a)
Other shades are listed in the various catalogs - Grey Green
Varieties:
- Heatwave effect on hills. (SACC 120b)
This stamp was printed using cylinders 6919 and 17 ( Numbers appeared on the bottom left hand margin in red )
The South African Colour Catalog also lists cylinders 51 3 for the Cinnamon and Green and 51 5 for the Heatwave Variety.
SG has a cat value of £29 for a used pair. Another point to note is vertical pairs generally command less than horizontal pairs.
I hope this clears up a bit about the 2s6d with hyphen.
PS. never once thought you were trying to deceive - I just know with these issues they can easily be mixed up.
