I have been washing my clothes by hand using a Dhobi Stick,
today however, was a big day,
I bought myself a washing machine.

More time for stamps.

When I picked up the machine from an retired
gentleman's place, there it was...standing in the corner.

A genuine 1950's PMG (Aust Post) pushbike,
in scarlet red colour in pristine condition.
PMG on the frame, the big red reflector
on the back mudguard.

I think it may be a Malvern Star

Any Aussies have a clue on it's value?
I offered $70 but was rejected.

Thanks

Sensational post Rod.

What a remarkable contraption the "Hen & Chickens" is.

Did you buy the washing machine for soaking stamps? Why else would you buy such a device?

Ever tried washing by hand PF?
not good.
Socks and handkerchiefs are OK,
Try a pair of overalls.
(I've always been a fashion leader)

I hadn't consider soaking..
It's an "agitator" and it has a spin dryer too!
No more stamp drying books Hehehe

Sorry, but I have to end with a pun,
which only elders would understand.
"If you spin dry your stamps,
they are no longer Mangled"

My grandmother bought a mangle-washer. In 1985! I didn't even know they still existed!

You've definitely been sitting out in the Sun too long, Rodney. It's either that, or time to call in the qualified alienist.

That's OK Phil,
our American cousins are always welcome.

Smauggie, your grand-mum is a legend,
havn't seen one for tens of years,
I see the carcases of the machine (drum type)
but the mangle is always missing.

Tony, there is something peculiar about a guy
collecting stamps from Bhor, insinuating
someone else is crazy
Anyway I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

Rileysan,
cutting edge washer of the 1950's

The two rollers you see the lady putting the trousers
through, are driven by the electric motor
and squeeze out excess water.

There is no kid alive since the 1950's that hasn't
had his fingers in the rollers! ouch.

Yes, a very bright and cheery 1950s housewife making me very glad I live now and am not expected to look bright and cheery whilst doing housework!

My Grandmother wouldn't have a washing machine and always washed by hand. She did relent and have a spin-drier eventually...

Whilst I was a student I spent my summers working at a wilderness and survival school, on an island with no electricity, running water, or "sanitation". I had no washing machine at home either. When I got home every 3 weeks or so I would first soak in a hot bath, then soak my clothes in a hot bath, then walk up and down in the bath to wash my clothes. I can't say much for my sartorial appearance during that period, but my feet were really clean
