I've tried to let Londonbus inspire me to some Spring cleaning. I know this is a little off-topic, but I really enjoy the threads where people show their desks, workspaces, etc. I've posted all these images over at Flickr, so as not to overtax the SCF servers.
First, I need to tell you that my home office has a bay window looking out into a nice backyard with lots of birds, rabbits, and a few squirrels. The window is surrounded by bookshelves that cover that entire wall. Unfortunately, the bay window makes a very tempting place to stack things until I have a chance to sort, file, etc. Of course, the stacks grow and grow.
Below is the "before" shot of the window. Notice the 4-volume set of Canada, which really shouldn't be sitting in all that sunlight, and a stockbook, which shouldn't be lying flat. Looks like I threw a couple of plastic storage containers in the window, but never did anything with them.

The next several images are close-ups of the stacks, from left to right. Leftmost are some 102 cards, some covers that I need to clip the stamps, an old candy box with some oddball packets inside, and a pair of 3-D glasses left over from some movie.

Next, moving a bit to the right are a couple large ziplock bags for all the stamps I clip and save, but have never used. One bag for US, another for Canada. Oh and there's a white notebook that has something in it, but I don't remember what?

Below, moving on leftward, a stack of 1950s UN publications I haven't had time to read. And a grading guide from PSE.

Just a few more close-ups. Below, the RPSC magazine and an envelope of US Special Delivery stamps sent to me by Tomisek.

And of course, my beloved Unitrade and the mini-version of Scott that I use for my US checklist.

Next to the TV, I have this shelf (that I've shown here before) holding my US and UN albums, and a couple catalogs.

On the other side of the TV is this matching shelf, currently unused, except from some (messy) left-over cables and remotes. So, my idea is to press this shelf into service as I clean out the window.

OK, OK, I know you're anxious for the climax. After SEVERAL hours work, and several time-outs to clip stamps, file a few papers, and make 15 posts to SCF, the 2nd bookshelf now looks like this:

Sorry about the camera shake in the above photo -- I was getting a little tired by the end. But at least you can see the albums are out of the sun. Books are all vertical, etc. And the extra dust protection from the closed doors is nice too.
Below is the "after" shot of the window. I even washed the glass inside and out so the squirrels don't look so dirty now.

Below you can see that I did indeed use the storage containers. They look fairly neat right now, but one should probably think of them as Pandora's Box. I have a feeling if I open one of them, it will repopulate the entire window with "stuff."

I'm tired, but I have to admit, it was great to have a clear-out. And it certainly looks better. Only four more rooms to go ...
If you made it this far and you're still reading this boring post, you should be cleaning your own office
