Since I am new to stamp collecting, I do not have any catalogs. I wanted to let you all know about www.abebooks.com. They have a ton of previously used (alot of ex-library) catalogs for $1.00(with about $2.62 shipping). I think this is pretty cheap!

Thank you.
some bargains, some hugely overpriced, be careful.

example, some Australian Post Office produced
manuals were sold here on SCF last year for around $10 IIRC (5)
at abe, they were asking $13 each plus $8 postage
but a link worth posting, thanks.

I went to the website. Searched for stamp catalogs and got nothing. What is the search parameter?

I typed in the publisher's name in the title search field, e.g. "Scott" or "Stanley Gibbons". I got over 200 pages of results for Stanley Gibbons publications at very reasonable prices.

I think you need keywords that specifically appear in the title. Its a fairly blunt instrument as far as searches go. Even using "catalogs" rather than "catalog" might stump it. Try narrowing it down with the categories listed on the left hand side, "crafts and hobbies" then "Scott stamp Catalog". That brought up a few, thought admittedly not at the top of the results list.

I ordered 6 books, seems abe is the central processing
company for sundry bookshops, they are all collated through Abe
One bookshop suddenly added $28 US for shipping to my order
So I have cancelled that order.

I didn't get the feeling it was underhand, but it is a
pain in the neck.

www.abebooks.com and www.bookfinder.com are fantastic resources and I use them for all types of books. They are also useful to spot check prices asked elsewhere.

A lot of my students use http://www.half.ebay.com/ for textbooks. Now that it's owned by ebay, I'm not sure if the deals are as good.
