Phil, I don't think I have those and I can't remember if we ever traded. I'd blame it on old age, if I was old... Do you still have them? |

I think this is the most handsome stamp of Lincoln--from a gal's point of view. Gussyboy1 |

16th President Abe Lincoln 1809-1865 I think maybe he looks better with the beard! Definitely more distinguished! Gussyboy1 Image Insert: |

Those are both good portraits. Much better than the young, gangly looking Linocln from his railsplitter, postmaster, and lawyer days. |

I noticed that in some portraits they down play the "mole" on his right cheek.

You could make a life time out of collecting Lincoln. He may well be the most popular person on stamps from many countries. |

bobggg, Yes I could use that cover. mkfarm, You are correct in that collecting Lincoln could take a lifetime or last a lifetime. Also, I know that he is the person pictured on more US stamps than anyone else (at least that is what I've been told, I'm thinking Washington or Franklin). I will have to check and see how many countries have a Lincoln stamp. |

MKFarm said... Quote: He may well be the most popular person on stamps from many countries. Maybe... but the person who has appeared on more stamps than anyone else is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Incidentally, Her Majesty is one of the more popular topicals for girls, in Canada. A new P-rate stamp with a portrait of Her Majesty is to be released next month by Canada Post. I always wanted Canada Post to issue a stamp with both Her Majesty and HRH The Prince Philip. I've always been a great admirer of HRH. David |

Does anyone know if there is any importance to the postmark on bobgggg's cover relating to Lincoln? The only thing I can think of is that a collector had an extra cachet cover, appropiate stamp and wanted a New Year's Day postmark from D.C. |

I only collect Abe on one cent pieces. Have all from 1909 to 2008, but not all mints for each year. Steve |
