Hi to all

I do not know if I have posted these before.
I have often wondered why the ink on the left hand stamp is so smudged.
I examined it under a gemmological microscope and I found out that it is printed on the gummed side.

I tested this by slightly wetting a very small part of the top right hand corner, and sure enough it is gummed.
Would that explain the smudging?

Regards
Horamakhet

Hi Horamkhet
That's pretty cool. Bit of a cock up there I'd say.
And I surely think that would explain the odd look of the ink.
But that raises a question in my mind. I'm sure that it's pretty basic, but it got me wondering.
I'd assumed that stamps were gummed after printing. Experts? Which comes first ink or gum?

Question Horamhket. Is the 'faulty' stamp gummed on both sides? I see it's got a postmark, which means it was attached to a letter at some point.

Hi
It must have been gummed on both sides at one time, because it has been used and there is no gum on the reverse, only on the picture side. Weird
Horamakhet.
