In a recent sales thread, the question arose about whether it is acceptable for re-seller's to buy stamps etc on SCF. There were two very opposite opinions.
One was that once sold, the new owner can do whatever they want with the stamps, the other was that, as this is a community and a family, sales should only be for collecting.
Hence the very simple poll! I will add more choices if requested

I don't see the problem. For one, as you stated, a buyer has every right to do whatever they want with their stamps. In addition, more buyers translates into higher realized prices for SCF Members (collectors). |

Ethically I would have liked to think it was for collectors only, I see no way of policing that, and happy to go with the flow, I am never in the race for big budget items anyhow, and an open market supports SCF members who sell. I am an idealist that understands things are not like that outside my head |

I think you know where I stand.
It would be nice to think that if we sell an item, it will reside in a collection. And eventually it probably will. But if you sell something, you don't own it anymore. You can't impose rules on it. If I buy a collection here, but only need 2/3 of it, why shouldn't I be able to sell the rest to finance my collection?

I voted for the middle option; but I would like to add that whoever the buyer is, once he has bought the stamps they are his/hers to do as he pleases.

I would prefer that stamps sold on SCF would be for collectors only but as Rod stated there is no way to police that so whatever happens after the purchase is up to the buyer. |

If I give you something gratis, don't sell it here. If I give you something gratis, and you give it away here OK If I sell you something real cheap don't resell it for a profit here. If I sell you something real cheap and you resell it here real cheap OK
I'm just sayin here not there, off site is fair game. |

I see it as polite to let giveaways go to someone who can use them, rather than picking up an item a member could have sold (and another member could have used) just to resell it.
But once a seller has decided to sell something, then the more bidders, the merrier...

IMHO selling on SCF, or other stamp sites, is an extended privilege from the Administrator but by no means 'a members right'. I feel that a 'few' purchased stamps from SCF that completes a Album/large set should allow that to be sold as a complete unit. To buy and re-sell the same stamp(s) for profit, within approx' 12-18 months on SCF, would alter the perceived perception of that persons personality/financial status. |

Who knows what tomorrow might bring? I might buy today, with no intention of reselling, but tomorrow my circumstances might have changed. I might badly need to sell. Leave it to the commonsense and feeling for fair play of the individual members, I say. |

If you pay the asking price or win them at auction they are yours to do what you like with them.
I have given freebies and would not like to see them sold here but there isn't much you can do about it besides that I don't own them any more. |

I think giveaways morally should, if passed on again, remain free. But the question is specifically about selling. I personally don't mind if someone buys something I have to sell and then sells it on. Chances are the profit, if any, will go on stamps for their collection anyhow. Ultimately the stamps will end up with someone who appreciates them more than I do, which is one of my main reasons for passing on stamps, whether by trade, giveaway or sale.
I wouldn't buy something on SCF specifically to sell, but I can't promise that no stamp I bought on SCF will ever find its way into a sale - maybe I might buy a large group of stamp and sometime in the future duplicates might end up being sold on. So for that reason I voted for the third option. |

Before I reply, I would like to see this thread. Where can I find it ? |

I believe that selling on SCF should be for members collections.
That is the reason I offer materials here, and sell them cheaply, to help others with their collections. Now that I know that is not the case, I will move my extras to a auction site like bidstart. |
