I have not seen an instance where anyone was taking advantage of a cheap item on the forum and then making a profit on it. I would hope that everyone would be more ethical than that (but I am also a realist). I would think that all of our members would be able to collectively police this on a case by case basis. We will be able to see someone USING our generosity for profit and react accordingly. So far though I have seen nothing but a wonderful group of stamp collectors bending over backward to help each other with stamps and advice. I have seen nothing like this forum on the web or in actual meeting groups. You are all amazing people. - Jeff |

I agree with those that if someone buys the stamp/s the buyer can do whatever he wishes to do with them. Usually I see a give it away item as something I do not need but hope someone can use or move along. I think it depends on why you are collecting, trading, and or selling.
When you sell something do you declare to the IRS a value of purchase on that given away stamp? Another way to ask the question is - if there is a fire in your stamp room what will you tell the insurance company the worth of stamps given to you by someone else.
My stamps are for collecting purposes only first. If I sell something from my collection it will be for building my collection. Until I get older and feeble and think about passing my collection along either for sale or give away to someone who will use it properly. |

Whether I sell a stamp or give it freely, once it is gone I no longer own it, and hence have no control over it or wish that I had.
A gift with strings attached is no longer a gift, it's a burden. If I send you a packet (which I have done to members in here) of free stamps and you decide to resell some or all of them i see it as your business and you alone are in charge of it.
Policing what some members do or not do with their stamps smells too much of Gestapo like tactics. If you do not wish to have your 'gifted' stamps resold, burned, whatever don't gift them in the first place.
Anyone that I have sent stamps to...do as you will with them, they are YOURS! :)
That's what I think |

I really don't see how you could realistically hope to legislate against reselling any item sold, or given away, here on SCF.
However, I'd certainly appreciate a quick note of explanation if something I'd given away, or sold at a knock-down price, to a fellow collector, later turned up for sale. That would just be good manners. |

I've been off for a few days. I think that once you sell an item the buyer can do with it whatever they please. In fact, just recently I saw several souvineer sheets selling for face value when they could have gone for much higher considering dealer prices for said sheets. They were snatched up very quickly. I thought to myself that if I were in it for the money, those would be a great buy for a quick turnaround profit. Regardless, I did not purchase any of them nor would I have unless I needed them for my collection. |

My turn, I'm a stamp collector, not a seller. Every once in awhile I'll do a trade or give something away. Usually, its to someone who either needs it for their collection or just needs it.
IF I were to sell something on this or another forum, its sold. I got what I was asking and I should be happy with that. If the buyer then wishes to sell it, I don't give a crap, its his to do with as he pleases, I no longer have any attachment with it as I don't own it any more. If I still have emotions about it then I won't sell it.
I'm a stamp collector, not a seller. |
