Hi

I thought I had posted this once before but could not find it.

Quote:
Minkus 1980
Following the theft of large quantities of stamps during a fire at Guayaquil (July 1902) the Govt instructed local authorities to handstamp stocks on hand with control marks.

Hi Rodney,

A long time ago I bought about 5 album pages of these marks. I told the seller what they were but he said he did not have space for them in his album so he sold it for a relatively small amount. I still do not have all of them. Some dealers are aware of them but a lot of dealers assume they are fancy cancels. When I was working part time in the stamp store I purchased a few of them. You do not see them very often. In 20 years I have not seen a cover with any of them.

I believe I still have the pages from the Yvert album that lists the stamps on the page reverse. I'll have to dig them out and make a listing and I'll post it here.

Note: Because they were handstamped, in some cases it is very difficult to see the mark.

Hi warrehouse

I have had this chart for over 16 years and I cannot remember where I found it. I had a friend that also collected Ecuador and I may have gotten it from him.

While looking some more, found these pages:

http://esp.ebay.com/viewItem?item=2...453327&v=gbh

http://esp.ebay.com/viewItem?item=3...063219&v=gbh

This page has a section on the marks almost at the bottom of the page, and a lot of pictures of "T" and "OB" overprints.

Hi

This is an update to my original post. The article discusses the Ecuador Fire Control marks and was written after the original post:
