This is a #11 that I believe I'm going to win in a few minutes (I'm the only bidder so far with 3 minutes to go). What do you think? I'm excited because this will be my earliest stamp in my book.

I_Love_Stamps, I'm pleased that you won the stamp. Now you have a stamp on the first page of your US album.
Regards
Mike

Russ,

I have an old (1972) Scott specialized which lists 11a as 3c claret (1857) (also Type I) and lists Type II as #26, with the outer frame lines at top and bottom removed.

Am I hopelessly out of date using that catalogue?

A few years ago Scotts did some changes.
The old Type I with outer frame lines on all 4 sides but no inner frame lines on sides is still Type I (Scott 10, 11 and 25)
The old Type Ia with outer frame lines on all 4 sides but and inner frame lines on sides is now Type II (Scott 10A, 11A and 25A)
The old Type II with no top or bottom frame lines and continuous frame lines on the sides (not broken between stamps) is now Type III (Scott 26)
The old Type IIa with no top or bottom frame lines and side frame lines broked at the top and bottom (between)of the stamps is now Type IIII (Scott 26A)

I've posted these before. They are my earliest stamps beacuse the earliest known postamark for these is 2 July, 1902 and here are three very close to that date.

I don't collect US stamps, only Canada, but my oldest is #4 from 1852.

I actually have a full album of US stamps from my grand-father but it gathers dust somewhere in the apartment

Russ,
Thanks.

Now I will be wondering about all the others in the catalogue as well.
Seems I might need to update to the 21st century one of these days.
