Almost looks too good to be true, like a used proof. If it is a Postage Stamp then it is a type I and a lovely piece. |

Top ornaments are complete and no horizontal flaw under the letter "U" so it does not appear to be a IA Scrolls on bottom appear to be complete so not a 1B Top outer frame line is complete, for a 1C this would be partly cut away. |

From what I can see, it's a real gem for a used copy. In 2013 Scott US Specialized, the catalog values are: Type 1 - $75,000 (Scott #5) Type 1a - $11,000 (Scott #6) Type 1b - $10,000 (Scott #5A) Type 1c - $3,500 (Scott #6b)
I have no idea if it's genuine, or, which type it is; but it's a fantastic piece of paper. Stanley Ashbrook wrote an entire BOOK about this one issue:
----- was an advocate of philatelic research and encouraged others in their research. He financed the research of Stanley Bryan Ashbrook, which led to Ashbrook's publication in 1938 of his book The United States One-Cent Stamp of 1851-57. |

Can you zoom in on the left border surrounding the Medallion and post the scan ? There appears to be a dot in the left border, according to Neinken this dot is only found on plates 11, 12 & Die proofs. He also states that this Dot is not found on any of the imperforate one cent stamps. |

This is the dot I am referring to. Have a look at the number 5's in the PF certification database and you will see this dot is not present. It is referred to as the "Secret mark" to differentiate Plate 11 & 12. *Disclaimer* for the record I am a rank amateur at this and am only thumbing through pages of a book. |
