I need a scott# 113 but I'm not sure exactly what their value is and need some advice before I drop any money on it. I have attached the picture of the stamp in question and have a concern on condition. Do you think $8.00 (U.S.)is too much to pay? Can anyone on the board maybe do better? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

$8 is less than 10% of catalogue value, but it's more common than the catalogue value would indicate. A stamp in this condition is worth about $5-$10, so it's priced about right.

Condition is everything. It looks like there is a small tear lower right about 2 perfs up, there are a couple of very short perfs on top, perhaps one is even a pulled perf. Are those stains on the back or staple holes, I can't tell and they don't seem to line up with the cancellation. The centering is about average for this issue but, the grill is nice. I suggest that the amount is a bit high.

I_Love_Stamps, I just got a Postrider that I won this morning in the mail. Its centering is slightly better than yours, has good perfs and a cancellation that only touches the upper right corner. I paid $10.18 plus shipping.
Regards
Mike

Here you go!
This is a mint #113 og that I have had laying around for sometime that I would be willing to part with for $80.00. For what ever it is worth, if your budget will allow, when dealing with the lesser value pre 1900 US (in my thinking) you are wiser to spend the little extra up front and not use a space filler. If you are like most people, down the road as your collection matures you will be wanting to up grade your collection and the lesser value space fillers will drag down the overall value of your collection. Of course there is the other side of the coin, What some would consider a space filler another would consider a gem

I whole-heartedly agree. You can easily find sounds copies in the $20-$30 range. $80 is a good deal for that mint copy, too!

Even for $8 I'd think you could find one with better perfs ? A good used copy like stated above can be had for $20-40 depending on the condition. I purchased this one for $30.00 and it has exceptional centering for this issue.

stallzer,

That is a mighty fine stamp!

I wonder if we could start using MF for the centering description of those classic stamps that are always off center....

MF, sounds good to me.

OK OK I will do it right when I do it. Most likely early next month as that's when I usually make any larger purchases. That's a really fine example you have. Nice pick-up my friend.
