Hi everyone. I would like any info available on these Guatemalan stamps that were in my $5.00 shoebox. I will more than likely be re-selling the majority of them and am just looking for any information that might help me with listing them on ebay. I also want to make sure I don't potentially throw a 'rare gem' in with a large lot. Any info you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, starting top left going clockwise.
SC (Scott's Catalogue)# 258 1932, C#114 1902, SC#117 1902, Birds SC# 274 and 275 1935.
Another suggestion, if you have a lot of older stamps like these, you can find old Catalogues at antique stores or used book store. They won't give you current values, but you'll have reference at home for information like this.
These numbers came from a 1994 Scott's Catalogue bought for $2. Worth every penny.

These are quite lovely, by the way. Nice engraving and light cancels.

In that tiny grouping you have stamps from 3 different printers/engravers.... the red stamp depicting a Mayan stela is scott #258 printed by the American Bank Note Company..catalog value 40 cents used...then from 1902 printed by Waterlow and Sons you have scott numbers 114 catalog 20 cents used and #117 catalog 20 cents used..then you have from 1935 scott numbers 274 and 275 catalog 20 cents each designed by a Guatemalan artist and printed by a Dutch company !!

I love the coloring in those stamps with the birds. It seems like from all the material in the shoebox, you've got a nice start on a
worldwide stamp collection!

I love the Quetzal the emblem of Guatemala..it is said that Quetzals can not live in captivity ..here are the big brothers of the stamps in the previous post...Scott #294 and 295 ! By the way if someone is interested in a new country to collect...i suggest Guatemala..it is conservative in issuing stamps and even the early classics only go for a few dollars while the ordinary stamps usually catalog minimum catalog value and they are works of art ! I am currently working on learning the stamps of Argentina but I would be happy to mentor anyone starting Guatemala !

Phil: So, Guatemala is still reasonably priced like Turkey was before the "great revaluation" in the 90's? I know the Philippines are pretty low priced too. :)

Ajnabii I don't expect any explosion in prices for Guatemala..Belonging to the International Society of Guatemala collectors I believe that there are probably only several hundreds of people that seriously collect Guatemala....there are high values of the airmail sets that there were only 3,000 printed and yet they are readily available for a few dollars on the internet..Now..if you get into the 19th century stamps on cover or specialized varieties thats where the specialists spend money !
