Just so we have a balanced view,
only the second time in 12 years I have lost
a mailing, not bad really.

I sent a gift of Australian Stamps to Amr in Egypt
which failed to arrive
I offered a new set which was declined.
If you read this Amr, that is quite OK,
I have ooodlies (lots of duplicates)
to which you are very welcome.

Rod222, even though the value was small I can understand your annoyance. NOT your fault, reputation intact.

Thanks finches, :)
I wasn't annoyed, frankly I am surprised
it hasn't happened more often.

What is disappointing, is the recipients
sometimes feel guilty somehow, and don't want a follow up.
My first loss, to a university in Turkey
was similar in their response.

Can remember that Egypt was one of those countries
that the mail is delivered anywhere but the address given.
From Amr I believe.

Hmmm and Egypt has been busy of late with other things, John.

Too right, he is OK.
I have known Amr, for a few years now
and have traded with him a few times.
I concider him a good friend.
Like Rod though, this is the only
country I have sent packages to
that have been lost. One had about
300 Lincoln cents in it.
I just sent him another package 2 days
ago, so we will see if that arrives OK.

To balance this up though,
the only package lost in transit to me,
was lost my Australia Post or Australian
Customs, depending on which one of them you ask.

Steve

I just simply try not to decorate the envelope with nice stamps. I use Forever stamps, or I just have the Post office affix a machine stamp.

If by chance the letter carrier, or mail handler, overseas is a stamp collector, those highly decorated envelopes are very tempting

Yes I have felt that way too,
but some of the outrageous covers I get
from collectors (collectors have a great sense of humour
I have found) always get through.

Londonbus' covers are always large with a minisheet
and "do not bend photos!"

The cover I sent Amr had a boring label.
I have a feeling perhaps a lot of mail has been
backlogged in Egypt, and it yet may get through
(with patience)

It sounds like Egyptian post and Oman post must hire the same people. I sent a letter to my daughter from here
with just *a letter* and a few newspaper clippings of people wearing traditional clothes, etc. and it never got through either! Then again, I also sent it to another one of those "black hole" countries - Turkey!
