My personnel ones are odd shaped or oddball stamps and triangle shaped stamps.

Some popular ones I have seen are airmail, air post, planes on stamps for one category.

Animals with many sub categories.

A very popular one would be Cinderellas with sub catagories such as labels, poster stamps, Stamp exhibitions or shows, etc.

Might want to take a look at how many are grouped together here.

Hope that gives some ideas.

From an ebay guide:

"The topic can be almost anything, but the most popular topics are animals, art, birds, Europa, flowers, ships, space, sports and stamps-on-stamps."

You'll have to take it with a grain of salt because they completely missed "KGV." (No one's perfect.)

I never committed to a topical but if I had to choose one quickly it would be stamps with Queen Victoria on them.
