Not my area but I'll join in the fun.. Top stamp obvious 2 tears upper and lower left , color somewhere between the 67a brown yellow maybe. Love the scans of the color guide by the way and maybe some 64 scans on that other thread would benefit the masses. Second stamp at first glance looks sound but I would note upper right and left darker colors showing through on and around the 5's making me think it has been altered to attain the 67b higher values color ranges. Hows that for a rookie? Constructively shoot me any way needed! |

nitroluresVery impressive, you have a good eye. The bottom stamp is the one with the most concerns. I to feel the bottom stamp has been chemically altered to look like a 67b (olive yellow). I think it is most likely started life as a 67a (yellow brown). How ever, there is something else amiss with this stamp. I will wait for others to weigh in before I reveal what I think I see. Also here are a couple that I will putting up for sale in my Fathers day sale. Not bad for a $1.99 start. Sc#67 Buff Sc#67a yellow brown |

Perfs look clean cut for the most part but pulled or altered in some other spots? Paper also doesn't look quite right . Second a total forgery? |

I agree with Nitro, Is it that there might be the slight diff color shading in top left and right (more on right)? -JC- |

I don't think it's a "Total" forgery. I agree with you about the perfs. I think it has been reperfed on the left side if not more sides than that. The red, grid cancel is unusually strong. It could be a fake cancel added to cover up a fault or modification. I defer to the color-abled members of this forum to help with the bleaching question. Brian |

Quote: Here is a #67b that I recently sold at auction. Yes it has been perforated, It has been reperfed on all 4 sides! The color is amazing. I almost think someone tried creating a mint 67 with a proof only to be called out and in turn, added a fake cancellation. The only problem with my theory is that the proofs are so valuable. Someone would have to be a fool to try it. |

Great job That is exactly my opinion the stamp is an altered #67 or #67a (most likely) with a fake red grid cancel added. Here is what leads me to this conclusion. If you look at the washed color you will see that the cancel is on top of it. Another thing that is so apparent is the impression the cross hatching on the left side is blurred or smudged looking. When compared to the right side which is sharp and crisp. Again great job all. Now all we need is for Russ to pop in and tell us about everything else we missed. |
