Some more interesting covers from the bunch I got last night. These four are from US publishers.

Fortune

Life (above and below)

And the Messianic Publishing Co.

It's nothing special to look at, but I just like the name.

ha ha that's pretty creative and looks neat. Some are in pretty rough shape but I guess if you was that old you would have a few crinkles on you too! Really neat!

I didn't think the rate from LA to Toronto was just a penny and a half. I wonder how the mailer got their change back?

That was likely a bulk rate postage at that time for mass mailings, but that still should have required extra postage into Canada or ae least Canada Postage due stamps!

There is what looks like duty free stamp on the bottom of the Messianic Publishing envelope.

Perhaps that explains the postage?

I collect American pre-1920 book trade covers and postal cards--- publishers, booksellers, bookbinders, etc. It's a supplemental collection to my book trade label collection. I try to avoid getting material for magazines/ periodicals, but quite a few have snuck in over time.

Here's my oldest postal card in this collection, June 1873 from bookseller Estes & Lauriat to bookbinding company George H Tilden:

advertising and trade covers will almost always fetch a premium from the right collector. My great grandfather and great uncle ran a small village (like 100 houses in the community) country store and I have some of the correspondence from merchants.
