I saw to today's postal bulletin that there are several towns that issued pictorial postmarks for the Illinois National Road Festival and am thinking of sending off for all 19 them. I seem to recall that this may be an annual event & postmarks have been issued in the past. If anyone knows anything about this topic?

Thanks for the Kudos! I just received the last 4 covers today and should get them scanned in and posted this week. I made to cachet myself. Plus they are unofficial first day of sale postmarks.

Phil,
I used to be a run of the mill album page filler. Then I found out about topical collecting and pictorial postmarks and it just took off from there. I still try to fill spaces, but I am behind on putting new supplements in my album for the last couple of years and the stamps for still in post office glassines.

I think I've gravitated to the same area, stamperdude. At first I started filling those pages, then set them aside for the topicals that keep growing and growing. I have stockbooks full but want someplace special to place the topicals--like the Red Cross, Christmas, Space, etc. When I see something that grabs my eye I will then move them to new albums or hagner pages in three ring binders--still not sure.

Hello,
I have been admiring the pictorial postmarks about the Illinois National Road project. I would be interested finding out about the add ons to the covers, specifically the maps. how can I add on those types of maps to my covers? Thanks for any assistance.
Joel

to the family Joel. I'm not sure how Dude did his, but I just print my cachets using the good color laser-jet printer in my office. It's not 100% professional looking, but it's close.

Joel,
I use my Epson photo inkjet printer and Microsoft Word to print my covers. I normally use photos I've taken for the cachet, but I also search the web for free images that I copy and paste to the envelope template. I have also used scrapbooking decals, stickers, and rubber ink stamps. I did want this particular set of covers to look uniform. It is the largest quantity of a series of postmarks I have sent for, besides First Days for a sheet. I tend to like the unofficial FD postmarks. It will be 2 years in August that I began making my own cachet covers.

Thank you for the replies about the cachet add ons. When I had a previous computer, the Word program was installed and worked as you have described. I also had a simpler scanning device. This particular commputer has WordPerfect processing program and it is parallel in its applications to the Word program. However they do not seem to interact or interface with each other or I am not conversant with the hows and whys. I have a new all-in-one copying scanning etc... machine and it seems to articulate with the Word program. There must be a way to interface the two programs. I anm going to pick the brains of the vender who sold me the computer and also the brains to techniques from the local computer program. Now to the point, where does one get these pictures for the cachets? The question has been partially answered. Are there websites that have these items for free? And can they be sized to fit an envelope
or postcard? Thanks
Joel
