Could any Member assist with the reason dates spanning two years are printed on Ecuador stamps, please.

Hi finches

These are Ecuador revenue stamps. The 2 dates are the year for which the stamp is valid. I do not have the months they were issued in. According to the 1980 Minkus catalog these stamps had inscribed labels and overprints from 1881 (no inscribed label and inscribed 1881-1882) to 1898. In 1898 a different stamp was used.

Dear Finches
Hundreds of stamps were overprinted with a range period of two years, revenues, regular and official stamps, in order to validate their use, revenues in order to sell remainders from old years, regulars and officials to distinguish from the stolen stamps after a big fire in Guayaquil. In the Bertossa catalogue you can find all regular and officials, in Olamo the revenues.
