Just had to show a serendipitous arrival. I bought this stamp for a pittance. The shipping was more than the stamp.

This stamp has so much going for it. The color is one. The color shown in the image is so far from the truth. It is a very rose red carmine-y shade with orange overtones. Just gorgeous.

Also the cancellation--New York Foreign mail 1916 or maybe 1915.

Also perfin P.D. Co. (anyone know which company this is?)

And to top it off, it is a "pink back". It was printed with an aniline ink which caused the color to suffuse to the back.

I could not have ordered up a stamp to these specifications if I had tried.

A closed ebay auction lot I just viewed indicated the PD/Co. perfin was used by the Parke Davis Company (which is now Pfizer).

Hello, I hope this this topic fits this thread. I have been trying to get any information on that type of New York Foriegn Mail cancel but have had no success. I see a lot of information on the 1870's cancel but not these newer ones, This cover is dated 1924 and has that same cancel. I guess I'm just wondering what would trigger it's usage. Was it used on all foriegn mail that passed through new York or just on registered foriegn mail? I just want any info on this cancel anyone may have.
Thanks
David
