1933 APS member #11590 Franklin Delano Roosevelt elected president of the United States..( my ex neighbor of 17 miles down route 9) It was soon learned that Roosevelt was a stamp collector and all of a sudden the "new hobby" skyrocketed in popularity. Roosevelt was a true collector..he collected what he liked sticking to no particular theme..he considered every stamp a bit of knowledge about the country and the people where it was issued ..he saved covers received in correspondence from regular citizens..of course foreign nations sent him new issues as a courtesy...
Boy, wouldn't it be nice to be famous so everyone in the word sent you good stuff like stamps? Of course, I don't think I'd want to deal with the hassles of being President even for free stamps.
If I where to get elected as president the first two things I would do is cut these dang gas prices and then declare that I am to get stamps from all over the world and would share them with all my friends from Stamp Community.
