Introducing Myself

Hello ...

I am new to philately, but I have already decided what I want to collect, and am both amazed and delighted to find that there are other people interested in collecting by engravers/engraving.

I have become very interested in (not to say besotted by) stamps of Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic, and can see that I could probably spend the rest of my (philatelic) life in pursuing this line.

It is my firm intention to pick the brains and experience of everyone I can, and my earnest hope is that I don't make too much of a nuisance of myself.

And who knows - I may even be able to contribute something as time goes by.

Hello, Londonbus1 and stampgal. Thank you both for your welcome.

Here are a few questions which you might kindly answer for me.

(1) What do the initials SC (as in cz. slania sc) specifically stand for?

(2) Are the names of the artist and engraver of a stamp always shown respectively on the left and right bottom corners of the illustration?

(3) What would you suggest as the best sources (other than SCF, of course!) for learning all about stamp engraving?

Hello Sperati, welcome !

Sometimes contries at different times put the engraver and/or designer's names on the bottom of their stamps, sometimes the name(s) are in the design of the stamp(s), sometimes just the agency that the people work for (bureau of Engraving, etc)

I believe there is a site about Slania and probably books.

Better to ask general questions out on the regular forum(s) as not everyone looks in here to say hello all of the time.

And those that do look (like me at times) do not know everything. No one does really. That is why it is good to ask questions, which is contributing in a big way actually.

Phil, it's a creature that is unique to Western Australia and thus has become a nickname for anyone from W.A. It lives in the sand and is very rarely seen.
