I usually use a black stock card, stock page, or Showgard mount to protect the stamp while in the scanner and then crop accordingly. I use Supersafe museum grade holders when scanning covers.
Been trying different things with the help I have gotten here. I just place the stamps on the flat bed scanner glass and either scan open or closed with different color backgrounds. I'm still working on the picture quality.
