Australia post is making heaps on parcels and loosing heaps on letters.

They have hit letter rate costs up 20% in just over a year or is it 2 years.
Australia Posts CEO would be quietly rubbing his hands together.

To be honest I don't really care when rates increase in Canada. I'm not in business shipping large volume of mail. Canada Post is safe and reliable and I don't mind a small increase every one or 2 years. A door to door service in a large country like Canada is expensive to maintain when you think of all remote regions.

I tend to agree that 60c to deliver a letter anywhere in Australia is a pretty cheap service. There are not many things you can buy these days for 60c, when small cup of coffee costs over $3.00, even a litre of milk costs well over double than a postage stamp.

An amusing/interesting video on the rise in postal rates in the UK is found at the link below, I guess similar videos could be produced for any country. It probably would be more informative if it also showed the increase in the cost of living during the same period.

Good to watch and lovely music by the Master himself.

Thanks for the link Perf14.

The music wasn't bad either.

Actually, Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony is my favourite classical
piece.

Yes I agree that the cost of mailing a letter in ones own country is good value but that is where it ends for me!

This is the cheapest way to parcel post outside Australia.
It was put on a rowing boat to a far away place.
Took the rower over 3 months to get there.

Be nice KGV. lol

What can be done to help with the mailing cost?

Mailing stamps are best looked at as an investment so there is a need to get the best mailing stamps possible for yourself and others. So they can be resold to help lower the cost or better still fatten your collection.

The stamps above were covered with a clear plastic strip off an old stock sheet to take the risk out of the stamps being damaged during transport and delivery.

But soon I fear their will be no stamps on letters or parcels we will pay cash and nothing to collect in the process.
Stamps will still be made and sold but for the collector and not for mailing.
Many mailing items are now sold by Australia Post, designed not to have stamps. In the past 2 years we now have to pay cash for registered post and insurance.

All over the globe, the same story would be happening. We need to enjoy mailing with stamps while we can.

Close! A house maybe.

That is for a 15kg box by seamail only.
Australia would have to be one of the most expensive countries to mail from. The only way to get kiloware out of the country is by free mailing, hoping that the mailing stamps are returned. How sad is that for stamping. The mailing cost above is for group C and there is a group D that is more expensive again.

Arrr arr SCF Pirate Post may help.

They do not call us the colonies and convicts for nothing.

Most Aussie do not even know that there is anywhere else other than the land of OZ.

As bad as the postal rates are in Australia, here in Ontario, Canada they add on 13% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) a combination of the former Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) 5% and the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) 8%.

Then again as someone mentioned here before Canada is a huge country
and it's expensive to service small populations in sparse areas.

Then again yours is not exactly a tiny island .

A Harmonized Tax.

The polies would of laughed for a long time because of the way they harmonized the tax.

How insulting is that for a tax name.
