i just purchased a space filler 120 dollar stamp for 20 cents..this might sound like a contradiction to my Number 1 Rule...Never Send Rubbish to a fellow collector....the space filler is for my collection..if a stamp is not sound and attractive I would roll it between my thumb and forefinger and throw it away before insulting another collector..we all have our quirks !

I've got a few fillers that I'm using until I hit the Lottery myself.
I also have a certified fake (Germany 15 or 17, I think) that I paid a few dollars for. It catalogs for $35,000 or something like that. |

Depending on how damaged the stamp is, it could be a good deal. The 1856 one cent from British Guiana, the "world's rarest stamp" with only one copy known to exist is damaged (according to Herst in one of his books) and is currently not available at any price. |

The number one problem I have with space fillers, and I do have a few, is that I forget about them.
So what I started doing, is putting a big penciled S/F next to the stamp, and I highlight the catalog # in my want list.
Only once did I send a space filler to another collector, however I specifiably told him in an email the condition of the stamp.

LOL 1. 1.a
I like those rules R_Lorenz :)
That 'always help a new young collector' is good because no kids collect these days, they are too cool for sch- stamps. That's why I don't mention anything about it to friends etc.
And I'm 14 :P |
