Hi to all

Here is an interesting cover for Australian collectors.
Christmas Island 1958
It is interesting to note that the currency is decimal, when Australia only adopted decimal currency on February 14th 1966

That cover is very attractive and one of the best colorized cachets I've seen. I wonder who "WCS" was as the cachetmaker?

As long as we're on the subject of Christmas Island, anyone have any more information on this "mail boat service" example dated to 1927 at this link:

(Note: Stumbled across this one by accident, as you will note they incorrectly spelled "postage" as "postge".)

The currency on the first set was still Straits Settlements Dollars, inherited from the British administration.

wt1, that is the Pacific Ocean Christmas Island, formerly part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, now part of Kiribati.

I have some info here on my site:

If memory serves me correctly ...there are three Christmas Islands the third one is in Nova Scotia! I believe the the PO there does a cover stamping business every Christmas Day.

Hi to all

thanks for the information.
wt1, I think, I am not sure, but the Australian Stamp Monthly may have cover the cachet makers, I will look on the weekend and see if I can locate the article.
Apparently WCS was famous for its colourful 1st day covers

Thanks. Found it on the internet ... WCS = Wesley Cover Services. According to the bits and pieces I have gleaned from various web sites, it sounds as if they may still be producing covers today, but only by the handfuls. The original cachet service went downhill when Australia Post started producing their own cacheted covers, which were apparently preferred by the cover collecting public.
