I think from now on, I will buy sets by purchasing the MOST EXPENSIVE stamp first!

Short sets always seem to abound, but I usually have a tough time getting the high values for my collection -- a combination of both limited availability and high prices.

Of course, if I want to purchase the $1 - $5 Queen Victoria Jubilees, I'll have to mortgage my house...

I always tell myself I'm going to knock the expensive stuff out first, but I always seem to find good deals on the cheaper stuff and can't help myself. :)

Interesting Kirks.
To resist temptation and save a little more than the norm and
pounce on that high ticket item sounds like a great idea.
It could be likened to a Lion after a successful hunt,
taking the best part of the plunder with a big smile.
Always Happy Stamping. John

That's almost exactly how I do it now! I recently have been buying sets, and like you've noticed most sets are to be found w/o the high dollars available so I scope out the best looking set and get it after I get the "big ones". Seems to work out quite nice! My next buy will probably be the Pan American or series 1902 but the latter will take quite some time as you can imagine! lol

One of my falsies is that I like to think that I'm organised. I carry with me a list of all the stamps I need to fill my collections. The list, on one sheet, includes U.S. regular postage, 1st 3 issue revenues (a,b,c), coils, CSA and the Hawaiians. Its folded up and in my wallet. When I go to a show or store I have the information I need. When buying on line, I have the spreadsheet. I look for good copies of stamps and check my list and go after it if I don't have it or if its a real good copy or cheap. I usually don't go looking for a specific stamp, I like looking at them all.
