I understand why some collectors end their collections with 1940 -- really I do. I guess we all have to pick our own "stopping point" -- for me it was year 2000.

But on the other hand, in the USA, we've had some nice series of stamps released AFTER the classic era. Here are a few post-1940 series that I wouldn't want to be without...

Overrun Countries (1943)
American Credo (1960)
Historic Flags (1968)
American Architecture (1979)
Transportation Issue (1981)

What are your favorite series?

I sure wish the USPS would come up with a new regular issue of the US Presidents. It would be a refreshing change to use Presidential portraits on regular issue postage stamps rather than those with a chair, a teapot, a lamp, etc. The US recently issued a 20-cent George Washington Stamp, so that could be a good start toward such a series.

wrt the new 20˘ Washington, when I had seen the stamp in the press or on the web I was singularly unimpressed, but I picked up a pane at the PO the other day. (Its actually quite a useful little stamp at 20˘, it lifts you up to the >1oz/<2oz first class rate along with a forever or a 44˘ job.) And, I was really pleasantly surprised by how nice the stamp looks in the flesh. The design and quality of the print job is much better than what I had thought based on reproduction in the media. I think it is one of the USPS's better offerings as of late.

As for a new Prexie series, that would be great but I suspect they won't do that and probably can't measure up to the old series, in any event.

20-cents is also the additional surcharge for "non-machinable" letters that are uneven, irregular, over 1/4-inch thick, etc.

I'm not a USA collector but my Flags Collection just wouldn't be the same without the Definitve Flags Series,Singles.....all of them.
Getting all the listed varieties of each issue has always been a great adventure.

I really like those too ratio. I think I posted a scan of them here once upon a time.

I'm a bit of a history buff (aren't most stamp collectors?) and I enjoyed the history on those sheets.

They look sort of like this ...
