I am looking for recommendations. Recommendations for philatelic events, dealers, exhibits etc. that might be on our line of travel on an upcoming Road Trip (September) to new territory.

To condense here, we are driving down to visit my brother in Mississauga, ON, and then taking a slight detour home through the U.S. The detour consists of a sharp right turn at Kingston, then wiggling through the Adirondack, Catskills and Appalachian Park systems and continuing as far south as Spanish Fort, AL (my wife discovered that a great-grandfather was wounded at one of the last Civil War Battles fought there) and then meander back up along the Mississippi to more familiar territory in Wisconsin and through Minnesota and North Dakota to Saskatchewan and homeward. True to my handle, we shall be avoiding Interstates and large cities for the most part and using secondary Highways.

I would really appreciate any suggestions that the membership can make regarding must sees or possible visits of interest to a stamper. For some obscure reason BCAA (AAA) handbooks do not have an applicable section for me. And right now the living room floor is carpeted with road maps which we are highlighting furiously.

Backroads I live just accross the river from Kingston N.Y. I would be happy to give you a tour of the Catskills and the river mansions of the Roosevelts,Livingstons,Vanderbilts and other robber barons that acquired all the good river front property..an overnight stay would cover both sides of the river...

If you are anywhere near Pennsylvania you might stop at APS headquarters.

Hey While I'm not familiar with the terrain up that way but sounds like an amazing trip. I wish you well and if you find yourself in PA., like jhlovell suggested, you may see the A.P.S. but I believe you must call them in advance. Also, I live roughly 30 minutes from the A.P.S. headquarters.

Yes of course, if within 75 miles or so of Bellefonte..do the APS building..you would need an overnight for that...you try to do the sales division and the research library and 1 1/2 days go by in a flash !!

Philbe, that is a very generous offer and it's one that we may be able to take you up on. I shall email with a few more details.

The APS sounds interesting. Just walk across New York Map and West Virginia Map and there's Pennsylvania Map. HMMM. We are Stopping in Wilkes-Barre and had intended to follow #11 south but if ..... All I have to do is persuade the navigator that this is a sanctioned extra detour.

And that map of shows is going to be invaluable.

Thank you, everyone, for your help.

I don't know your travel dates, but if you are going through Wisconsin, it might be worth a stop at MILCOPEX.

September 16-18, 2011 - MILCOPEX '11
Milwaukee Philatelic Society
Wyndham Milwaukee Airport and Convention Center, 4747 S. Howell Ave., Milwaukee

If you are coming through on the 3rd Saturday of the month, the Badger Stamp Club in Madison, WI has an auction. They usually have around 30+ lots and there are always lots of great items at reasonable prices.

Let me know if you are coming through and need more details.
