Hi wt1,
That's a great cover you have. Thank you for the link too. The Hindenburg was such an amazing airship! I am in awe when I see photos of it!

I have a question, I noticed in your message, you have a QUOTE box, how do I do that?

Thank you!

Hi kmncd,
Wow, your stamps are beautiful! The red one with the airplane flying over the very blue ocean and surrounding maps is VERY nice! It's a beautiful stamp!

What does Oro Pastas translate to? I think it means gold noodles, lolol....

Also, what does all those words translate to under "oro Pastas"? That's a fantastic stamp, thank you for sharing.

On the brown and light blue stamp, what does the man on the horse behind the airplane represent? I have a few airmail stamps with a half man/half horse on them.

Have a good evening!

You cannot be in "Quick Reply" but must be in "Reply to Topic" to use it. Cut the phrase or paragraph of text you want from someone's post and paste it into the message box. Highlight it. Choose the next to the last icon on the Format line (the look of piece of paper with the red right arrow) which is "Insert Quote". When you click on it, the phrase or paragraph you had highlighted is now between two [quote] boxes and it appears grayed out as a quote when posted.

Hi Sue,

The "Oro Pastas" means "air post" in Lithuanian. The series was issued to mourn the Lithuanian heros of aviation Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas, they took of from New York 1933 and crashed on the northeast German/Polish border not reaching final destination Lithuanian city Kaunas. They were short by ~300 miles from the whole 4200miles trip, some say that during the night time they flew over classified German military base and got shot..... but it's just rumor. The plane before the trip was named Lituanica, they do have big memorial in Chicago, plus a modern airplane sculpture in Chicago's Midway air port, and at the accident site and the Kaunas.
And the other stamp is showing the plane and the kinght on the horseback with sword and shield it's called - Vytis, the coat of arms of Lithuania,it is actually one of the oldest national coats of arms in Europe, tracing back to 14th century...(plus we were the largest country in 14th century Europe)
By the way in 1935 the american born lithuanian Feliksas Vaitkus(Felix Waitkus) repeated(solo) flight successfully in 1935 and has the series of 3 stamps issued to his honour in 1935.He was the 6th person to do it on solo trip, although he didn't reached the Lithuania he landed in Ireland, but still was welcomed as the hero for flying over Atlantic ocean.Later he was working as the test pilot(b-17) for Boeing company, and served in Korean war.
So these little planes a big deal for the nation of 3 millions....

Art almost had to do a double take on that one from Lakehurst. Canceled 5 years and 2 hours to the date of the crash. Had nice backstamps also. Heck thanks for showing they were all great.

Mac,

The USS Akron crashed on April 4, 1933 (12:23am). The cover is dated May 6, 1932 (5:00pm). That's less than a year prior.

How do you get 5 years and 2 hours to the date of the crash?

Art

As I said Art I was just glancing at the cancel. Who else knows what happened 5 years after the cancel of May 6th 1932. I know Art will get this one.
