I ran across this rather interesting Post Card in some family papers. The addressee, T. (Thomas) Jones was my grandfather and Careg Iago was the farm on Anglesey where my mother was born and where they lived prior to emigrating to Canada about a year after the date date on this card. The "Uncle Will" referred to was my grandfather's brother, who was a member of the Welsh Guards, I believe, and he was gassed in WWI and died a few years later of complications.

Leads one to wonder, How many of this small group actually survived the war? At any rate, since the card is written in Welsh, we have no clue as to what the message actually says other than probably being the usual banalities you find on post cards.

What I would like to ask is about the actual Post Mark. Is this considered to be a Military Post Office? I am not sure of the designation applied to Peace Time Camps and such. Any information would be welcome.

Hi Backroads

The Pirbright postal marking is a military one and is for the Pirbright Camp Base Office (B.O.)in the area of Woking.

Nice card and the cancellation is very clear too.

I cannot tell you how long this ofice was in active use because my area of expertise is with Canadian markings of the same nature.

Thanks Bujutsu. It was as I suspected then and I am still hoping that there is a British specialist out there who has the right handbook.

I found one more - this one from 1918 and, I suspect, also British in origin. The pencil address has it from a Capt Holbury (???) RFI (???) and the reverse has a red Censor stamp and an FPO cancel. I would like some information on this one as well if that is possible.
