The bottom row of perfs looks to be sloping up wards.
If the perforation line continued across the stamp sheet
it would just about cut the last stamp in half.
The perforations on the bottom row look to be a bit too long.
This stamp has a catalogue value of $175.
So, is this a forged reperf I have for sale on ebay for $99?
Any help would be gratefully received.

KGV Collector, looks fine to me, bottom perf row is parallel to the top row of perf's, the first and last perf on left and right vertical sides look correct.

To many Yes Men have been unfenced by that Aussie forum. Seems to be the fashion there.

Thanks heaps finches.

The print of the stamp is uniformly out of square to the perforations.
Can see it by using top and bottom of the screen as an alignment tool.
All my expensive perfins will now get a lot more of a look at them.

Yes with recent stamp forgeries exposed we need to be a bit concerned but not overly.

Fake perfs and perfins were noted to be in abundance in the 70s and 80s to the point that some are worth less than a normal stamp now.

Well with this reasoning I will keep this perfin for sale.

KGV Collector BTW, noticed the Roos head is Fox like, not to mention the small horn between the ears. Nice one.

finches I really like the old style printings.
So much to see and look for.
Yes this stamp has disturbances all over the place.
Nice to be able to get a good look at a stamp posted on SCF.

A greater risk than reperfing is the OS perfin. I suspect you'll have an uphill struggle selling any OS perfins at the moment, after Blue Owl have so muddied the waters. Many experienced collectors are refusing to touch them, unless they come with cast-iron guarantees, from unimpeachable experts.

This perfin is probably OK, because it's on cover:

Tonymacg, that's a magnificent genuine OS stamp/envelope from the Dead Letter Office.

Used OS stamps were the Cancellation passes over perfin holes can be differentiated from home made jobs, usually. Mint, different story.

Wow what a cover and so attractively busy.

Tony the perfins OS on cover or piece will be the only true perfins soon.

We have a perfin day each week so will see if the trade slows.
Yep no one will buy any expensive perfins and the witch hunt is on.

I read the thread about Blue Owl and this one. I think ebay should have a board of volunteer expert that can even just with a scan identify fraudly auction. The way it is now it makes a bad reputation to both ebay and the hobby. When you buy an expensive stamp and some experience philatelist tells you a year after it's been reperf, it's too late to get reimbursement. You just want to go after that Blue Owl.

Fascinating to learn to look at all parts and sides of a stamp and not just concentrate on one side to determine any possible changes made.

Regarding the OS perfins, has any study been made regarding any different dies of the OS perfin, if there are any? Similar to the Canadian OHMS perfins?

From Ken Pugh's web site about OHMS (and other fakes and forgeries):

Quote:
For the last twenty-nine years, confidence in buying O.H.M.S. perforated official issues was virtually destroyed. Fakes were reported in abundance, and very few collectors, dealers, and expert committees could accurately identify all the genuine types. Release 5 is the only comprehensive reference available to experts and general collectors that will enable one to identify all 25 genuine perforated O.H.M.S. dies as well as the genuine O.H.M.S. and “G” overprints. It starts with a 20 page section on detection techniques followed by large scale photographs of all the 5 dies for the 5-hole and 20 dies for the 4-hole perforations.

I would think a well regarded study into what is and what is not faked and how to tell the difference, would be invaluable to collectors.
