This is an interesting combination that I recently ran across.

The cover is, apparently, an FDC though the cancel is rather difficult to make out and there is no special cancellation. I believe it is November 28, 1949.

The more interesting useage is the Cinderella issue on the reverse, just under the sender's return address. It appears to be a very nicely designed issue for the National Stamp Exhibition of 1950.

I am only guessing at this point, but there is a chance that this cinderella comes from a small sheet and I would be quite interested to see the full sheet if anyone is able to share a picture of it.

Yes, it is a First Day Cover. In Australia it does not need to have any fancy cancellation to make it a FDC - just a cancellation showing the 1st date of issue.

The cinderella comes from a sheetlet of 12, with the bottom left stamp inverted. James posted a grotty example here:

There is a nicer copy, with the dates added in green, in the ozstamps posting Thur Nov 13, 2008 13:09:15 pm

Thank you for the links. The scans will be a help to me. It was just nice to see the label used, on cover, more or less the way it was originally intended.

Do you happen to know if that postage would actually carry the letter to the Falklands?
