This is how mail used to get delivered around Australia, a long long time ago.

My dad owns this cover which was sent by his mum, it went on the only re-run of a cobb & co carriage, a long time after these carriages stopped delivering mail, one went around Australia delivering mail as a memorial for cobb & co. that's how dad's mum sent it to dad, and now he has a cover from it, even stating on the front what it was from. Don't know where it is at the moment so I can't post pics.

Steve do you know anything?

Ed, No I don't have any info on that, it's the first I've heard of it.

Here is a 1955 FDC of the Cobb & Company, but not near as nice as your photo. Rather the Australian version of the Pony express. Is the date about right for your dad's letter?

I don't think it is that one, it was sent to my dad, who was born in 1964
