Hello extanker....

There are 2 shades.....most are the common violet 20 cent. Only a certified purple is valued at $500.00

the violet/purple thing always drives me nuts especially with the Guatemala large quetzals I know purple is the dark guy and violet the light but there are so many shades in between !

Extanker, Welcome to the Forum glad to have you with us. One thing I have learned is that if you want to be sure about the color of your stamp, look around and find yourself a color fan. That is a small fan like tool the has ink swatches in it. Ones I have found have holes in the center of the color patches so you can lay it on top of your stamp and match the colors like that. I do believe I saw some on Mysticstamps.com or on Jamestown Stamps website.
