Hi all, new here. I am not nor do I intend to become a professional collector, but want to collect so that I can leave my daughter some things.

I have been sort of set on buying panes, like the bugs bunny, desert scene and so forth, and sheets that come out. I just found out about a postal "Yearbook". So my question is, do these yearbooks contain every new stamp published in it's year? And is there spots in the book for the panes(in their entirey)? and for the stamps that come in 4's in a square block? Take for example that desert scene that came out in 98 or 99 I think, is it in that year's book?

Do these books even have the stamps that came out in that year that were not valid for postage?
I ask because since I am not looking to do this professionally but would like to collect all the new stamps published each year, it would seem that if these yearbooks contain all the new stamps for each year that would be the best way to go....So do these yearbooks have all the year's stamps to include panes and sheets like the bugs bunny?

Also, what was the first year they did the yearabook? thanks all..t

Hello Tim....

The only one I've actually seen is the 1994 and it does have stamps and spaces for every commerative issue that year. It does not have any definatives or spaces for them.

Issues not valid for postage ?? I don't think there are any more tax or revenue stamps being issued, but if you mean the Duck stamps, they were not included in the 94' book.

In my opinion, the year books are over priced.

Commemorative stamp yearbooks are still available at usps.com for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
These have not been very consistent in what they contain with regards to panes vs. single stamps. The USPS does not want to make them too expensive for gift-giving, and so what exactly is included varies with the number of new issues each year and is driven by the desire to hit their retail price point ($49.95, more recently $64.95).

The current yearbooks only have Commemorative stamps and generally only contain 1 example for each stamp and a corresponding mount to secure it to the proper page. In the 70's and 80's there use to be Definite yearbooks or special addition sets ie. 50 state birds & flowers. The past yearbooks would not contain any high value error stamps ie. Imperf of Bugs Bunny and recalled Legends of the West., nor any airmail, priority, express, duck, official mail stamps, etc. I hope this helps.

I think the first commemorative set was in the late 60's or early 70's. 1968 or 1969 seems to spring to mind.

I know I have looked at the yearbooks and so has Walter. But IMHO they are not worth it besides they take away from the fun of the hunt for the stamps.
