Chinese revenue stamps; they will not be listed in Scott.
Because it is inscribed with "Peiping" instead of "Peking/Beijing", I believe it was issued after the name change to Peiping in 1928.
Sorry, I do not have a revenue catalog to give you final ID. |

These must have been from the very early period, because they're for tiny amounts: from left to right 1/10 cent, 4/10 cent, 1 cent, 2/10 cent.
If you can provide clear scans of the label below the central design, it might be possible to work out what they were for. Just a trifle too fuzzy for my ageing eyes. |

Cigarette tax stamps.
It's not your eyes, Tony; the plates appear to be worn and the individual characters are hard to see clearly. The leftmost stamp is a little clearer. You can sort of make out the first 2 words "rolled tobacco". |

Quote: Now the big questions, any idea on the year and value ? Someone with a revenue catalog will need to chime in. Unfortunately, I don't have one. All I can tell you is what I mentioned before. Since it is inscribed Peiping, it was issued between 1928-1949 by the Nationalist government when "they" changed the name of the city they no longer controlled so that it could no longer be called the "Northern Capital". Instead the name (taken from a previous dynasty) now meant "Northern Peace". Tony noted the low denominations on the revenues. That would suggest pre-inflationary period. For those looking in a revenue catalog, my "guess" would be early to mid 1930s as the issue date. |

You are correct, I have a bad habit of just lumping them all together as "serpentines". They are sawtooth, which are far less common than the true "serpentines". And, obviously, I should not have typed "perfs" afterwards. Creature of habit am I. My point was suppose to be, as Rod correctly states, nice example of sawtooth roulettes (as opposed to serpentine roulette). One more time... I think maybe I'm better off staying away... |

Thanks guys. Now if only I can find another set to compare them to, I've searched high and low and can find no reference to anything like these. |
