Hi! I haven't posted on this forum yet, so let me give you a brief history in case you haven't seen any of the other items I have posted. About 4 weeks ago, my mother-in-law gave my husband his grandfather's stamp collection. The Colonel loved his stamps, as you will see from the descriptions he wrote with the stamps. He passed away a long time ago, and last showed his Air Mail album in 1956, when he won the Grand Award at the Houston show. We have the albums safely stored away, but my mother-in-law made color copies of the pages, which is what I have scanned. I thought I'd post a page every Friday until completed or until people have lost interest. If nothing else, they give a very nice description of postal history - but I think you'll also see a few gems along the way. Enjoy!

That is sure a nice thing for your family to have. I'm glad that someone saw the value in keeping it, and keeping it together. Thanks for sharing...I, for one, will be watching for more.

Very nice. Does any family member have intentions to update and continue the collection?

I posted the Zeps on the Classics list, but came across a better copy today. If you don't want to wait a couple of weeks, you can see them on the other list. Hope this helps.

@PP - Currently, I am enjoying just seeing what was in his collection and learning as much as possible. I've learned a great deal about stamps - and history - in the past few weeks. The Colonel loved his stamps, and I don't think I could do it justice by altering his work by adding to it. To me, it's such a pleasure to learn about a man I never met, by reading his writings and learning more about his soul. Someone did purchase additional blocks to complete the collection a few years back, but they were never added to the album. If anything, I will mount these and create a separate album for them.

txblueeyes,

I believe that you would do your grandfather a great honor by keeping his collection and adding to it with new albums. Obviously, he truly enjoyed the hobby and I think he would be really pleased that you were to continue with it. Have fun, enjoy the experience and keep posting on this forum. I really enjoy reading your post and seeing what is in "your" collection.

Beautiful pages! Thank you so much for sharing these with us. I feel privileged just seeing something that was so personal to him and just think of all the countless hours he spent enjoying and constructing this; nothing short of amazing!
