Received an envelope of some old on paper world mix from Mike of Meostamps (thanks again, Mike) that reminded me of the kind of stuff I would soak when I first started collecting in the mid 1950's. It gave me the idea to get an old mid-fifties Minkus New World Wide album like the one I had and put together a collection of postally used stamps that I have soaked-off paper myself.

Problem is, where would all the old stuff, still on paper, come from. Also, where would I get the extra time.

Of course, a more recent album such as as a Harris Statesman could be used allowing for more recent stamps. Still doesn't allow for the time.

Another idea is to take something like the Statesman Deluxe Album that everyone thinks is too small and actually fill it with the 25,000 stamps it's made to hold. Most beginning collectors hardly get a few hundred stamps into one of these. And you'd be hard pressed to find a multi-volume set of Scott Internationals or Minkus Globals containing 25,000 stamps.

modern,

I agree where would the older material still on paper come from. I have found some older albums where instead of folks using hinges you find the stamp stuck in place I have cut these up and soaked them. Perhaps that would be one source or estate sales flea markets etc. I do love old albums and buy them when I can

Modern...When I was going through those boxes I had, there were
30-40 brown paper bags marked 4oz or 6oz and the country name
on them. Marked with an old wax pencil/crayon. The contents were
well packed together. I have a feeling that they were made up in
the 1940-60 time range and had not been opened since then. My best
guess it that an old time packet dealer had sorted them back then
from overseas sources to soak and use in his packets but never
got around to doing so. These appear from time to time in auctions,
both on & off line. And flea markets. Tip: At flea markets, ASK the
sellers if they have any stamp boxes/collections. 2 times I was able
to get boxes of useful material that the sellers had at home and
brought to their market the following week and held for me to look at
and buy at a good price. A lot of sellers only bring what THEY think will sell, not what people ARE looking for.
