Cool stamp! Interesting facts about the USS Constitution include: oldest commissioned warship in the world; on rare occasions takes a cruise around the bay in Boston but never under full sail and never ever out to sea; diagonal riders inside the hull and a sort of double wooden hull is what gives it its nick name of Old Ironsides; I may be off a little on the next fact which is: only around 10% of the ship is original, the rest has been replaced during its long history. |

What's going on? The original design of this stamp, as shown in my initial post, is what is still being carried on USPS Facebook as of today (01/10/2012): However, the newly redesigned Beyond the Perf website has changed the text on the stamp to read this way: One would think that by the time these stamps are announced to the general public they would have tied up the design elements, but apparently not this case. Furthermore, if there is a change, why is it that the USPS does not adjust the images in both Beyond the Perf and USPS Facebook at the same time? I have never known the USPS to be so disorganized as this in announcing their stamp issues. What's going on? |

I was reading a recent article that one of the founders of "The Journey Group" the graphic design company that produces the USPS Beyond the Perf and USA Philatelic, has joined the US Postal Service and that the design of this War of 1812 (USS Constitution) stamp is his first stamp design for the US Postal Service. Contrary to what I posted on 01/10/2012, it seems the USPS has now gone back to the original design with the text "USS Constitution" staying on the first line of the stamp and "The War of 1812" on the second line.
It would be nice if the USPS would make up their minds and stick with one design and stay with it! |

According to the 07/12/2012 issue of The Postal Bulletin, the War of 1812/USS Constitution stamp is being considered a "souvenir sheet of 20" and postal officials are being advised that the stamps "may not be split and may not be sold individually". |

Quote: I wonder what kind of selvege art it will have. The Postal Bulletin says the front will have the header "THE WAR OF 1812" and verso text; the back will have the header "THE WAR OF 1812", along with copyright notice, USPS logo, plate position diagram, barcode, promotional text, The War of 1812 verso text, Portrait of President James Madison and verso text. Quantity will be 25 million stamps. |

I no longer receive the USPS Philatelic Catalog. Would someone please be so kind as to post the ordering info for THE WAR OF 1812 products when available for ordering through the catalog? I'd greatly appreciate it. |

Here's the detail from the latest USA Philatelic Catalog: You can also download the entire catalog by selecting "view content" at this link (just be forewarned that it is a very large file): https://store.usps.com/store/browse...desYearbooks{edit] Today's (07/12/2012) Postal Bulletin added a couple of more philatelic items to the list that aren't recorded in USA Philatelic, including a Commemorative Panel and Deck Cards: |
