I know almost nothing about U.S. precancels, but sorted a bunch out of a lot I was going through. Here are scans (apologies to anyone on dial-up):

There's some stuff that looks interesting to me, including a precanceled postage due and two inverted precancels. Anything that stands out to an expert? Thanks!

No expert here, but you did what I have been threatening to do for months, just cant seem to get to it. Hope you get some great answers. The scans were great, enjoyed looking. Thanks - Jeff

This is a nice group to start out with, mostly bureau prints [applied in Washington DC], but some locals too.
There are no scarcer varieties in here. In fact, valuewise, they are all in the 'most common' category. On many precancels, the inverteds are as prevalent as normal. I also enjoyed looking - show more if you have them!

Thanks, @chasa -- exactly the sort of info I was looking for! And thanks for the kind words. Curious: why would a postage due stamp be precanceled?

@jhlovell: Thanks! Enjoy your sorting. It's therapeutic.

A very nice collection. I, too, enjoy seeing them. At first I thought the Norman, Oklahoma precancel (fifth scan, third row, first stamp) might have been a rare variety, but later found out it was one of the common ones for that location. Still a nice collection to have.

I agree about the educational value of ebay. You can learn current market values of precancels and almost anything. Here is the scarcest precancel offered on ebay recently - selling for 315 $ . I was disappointed not to win it, but after the precancel convention 3 weeks ago I am semi-broke. This was especially interesting because all published records of the type showed 1923, not 1924.

Don't forget spelling variations, too. Search ebay for 'precancels', 'precanceled', 'precancelled', etc., which quite often brings different results!

Or just "precancel*", with the asterisk.

I've posted this link elsewhere, but for those interested in precancels, you may find pages 1-9 of this newsletter to be interesting and informative:

Yep! I sent you and email a few minutes ago. Your stamps were indeed mailed, and I'm surprised they haven't gotten there by now. You had said that inclement weather was delaying mail. As I said in my email, perhaps give them until Monday and if they're not there by then I'll issue a refund through PayPal?

No problem! I'm sure you're excited to get them, and there are always lots of things incoming and outgoing. I'm sure the USPS won't let us down.
