My father had pasted away 7 years ago and has an extensive stamp collection. I am wondering what is the best way to get the value of his stamps. Also, where would be the best place to possibly sell the stamps.

Most stamp sales happen on ebay or Bidstart (Online auctions)depending on the material. If it is indeed rare / Scarce expensive items then a mainstream New York auction house would be the way to go. To evaluate your collection you could start posting pictures here and if you provide High resolution pictures / Scans then there are many members here with a wealth of knowledge in US and Worldwide pieces that someone can tell you the value.

Being up near Albany you should be able to find a local dealer who can also assist you in evaluating your collection.
You can contact the American Philatelic Society for assistance. www.stamps.org

Theres a stamp dealer bourse at the Ramada Inn on route 9 in Lathem every third Sunday...the dealers are not huge but they are are decent guys and will give you a general idea of value..this sounds like many cases where the stamp collector did not leave any instructions on how to dispose of his stamps !!
